Kia cee’d owners asked to visit dealers for a ‘safety check’ (Oficial)
• Some cee’d cars may suffer a deterioration in brake performance
• Safety inspection/replacement of brake master cylinder recommended
Kia Motors is asking owners of some Kia cee’d cars fitted with ESP (Electronic Stability
Programme) to visit their local Kia dealer for a product safety check. Some owners
have reported a deterioration in the performance of their car’s brakes and this
has been traced to a potential internal problem within the brake master cylinder.
No accidents or injuries have been reported in relation to this problem. A sudden
deterioration of the braking performance is unlikely to happen but Kia encourages
owners of cee’d cars with ESP to visit their Kia dealer at their convenience.
Further detailed technical examination of several vehicles has confirmed that a
precautionary inspection and subsequent replacement of the brake master cylinder
should be carried out. Consequently, Kia is issuing a ‘safety recall’ for all cee’d
cars (5-door, wagon and 3-door models) fitted with ESP and built between 1 April
2008 and 30 March 2009.
Across Western and Eastern Europe, Kia is calling in 56,000 cee’d cars for inspection
and anticipates that up to 35,000 of these vehicles may require corrective action.
The vehicle inspection takes less than 15 minutes and, where necessary, the replacement
of the brake master cylinder with a new unit will require an additional 35 minutes.
This work will be carried out free-of-charge to the Kia vehicle owner.
Kia has already started contacting all affected customers to arrange for the safety
inspection to be undertaken. The number of customers effected in each country varies
widely as ESP is fitted as standard in some markets and is available as an option
in others.
Designed and manufactured exclusively for the European market, the cee’d is Kia’s
most popular model in Europe and more than 300.000 examples sold over the last three
and a half years in Western Europe. The Kia cee’d is supported by the unique ‘7-Year,
150,000 km Kia Warranty’ which guarantees peace of mind for the original and subsequent
owners.
